Job Description:
Our Ottawa based government client is seeking a Data Modeller for a contract position (running from contract award until March 31, 2010 with an optional year from April 1, 2010 to March 31, 2011). All candidates MUST possess secret level security clearance.

Scope of Work:
In collaboration with CIOB staff, the individuals will be providing the following services in support of various projects described above:

• Analyze and evaluate the current system, data models, project documentation, and data requirements.
• Interview project stakeholders and Subject Matter Experts to analyze data requirements.
• Assist with JAD sessions and client focus group sessions, as required.
• Gather and document data requirements.
• Evaluate and develop/maintain data models using data model methodologies and best practices.
• Analyze and prepare technical documents such as a data dictionary.
• Validate and verify the above with project stakeholders (internal program staff, external clients, and technical personnel).
• Provide comments and recommendations to project stakeholders, including IM/IT staff.
• Provide data analysis support for IM and IT development activities.
• Assist with the creation of project plans with respect to identifying activities and estimates
• The candidate may coordinate/direct other data analyst activities, if applicable/required


Other Requirements:
- has recent (within the past 5 years) experience interacting directly with clients and subject matter experts to understand requirements, data and business processes. - has recent (within the past 5 years) experience using CA ERWin Data Modeller for developing and maintaining logical data models and data dictionaries, as well as translating logical to physical data models. - has recent (within the past 5 years) experience analyzing and designing data flows/mappings/ transformations/conversions and integrating/exchanging/sharing data amongst multiple sources - has recent (within the past 5 years) experience working with Oracle and SQLServer Relational Database Management Systems (RDBMS) and hands-on experience in developing complex SQL queries and database objects (such as but not limited to triggers, views, procedures) in these environments. - has recent (within the past 5 years) experience modeling business data requirements in order to support Environmental Regulations. - has recent (within the past 5 years) experience in Dimensional Data modeling, data cleansing and ETL (Data extraction, transformation and Load).

The ideal candidate will have::
  • a minimum of 10 years of Database Modelling / IM Modelling experience
  • experience working on at least 2 projects that demonstrates Data Analysis, Database Modelling/IM Modeling experience
  • recent (within the past 5 years) experience designing, developing and maintaining logical data models and data dictionaries.
  • recent (within the past 5 years) experience providing technical assistance, guidance and direction in terms of data analysis and modeling, and data modeling techniques/methodologies/standards to team members.
  • recent (within the past 5 years) experience participating in the development of data modeling and metadata policies/ methodologies/standards.
  • recent (within the past 5 years) experience conducting data analysis of several existing data sources, identifying data most valuable to an organization, integrating this data, and developing data models for this core data.
  • recent (within the past 5 years) experience applying data architectures, strategies, standards best practices, and frameworks, such as but not limited to Zachman, TOGAF, Master Data Management, enterprise data warehouse architectures, SOA, Corporate Information Factory (Inmon), and DAMA-DMBOK.
  • recent (within the past 5 years) experience analyzing and evaluating alternative data architecture solutions to meet business problems/requirements to be incorporated into the corporate data architecture
  • recent (within the past 5 years) experience reviewing corporate architecture strategies and directions, data requirements, and business information needs and devise data structures to support them.
  • recent (within the past 5 years) experience participating in definition/refinement of corporate data architectures.
